British Science Association appoints new chief executive

The British Science Association is pleased to announce that Imran Khan will be taking on the role of the Association’s chief executive, from Tuesday 2nd April 2013.

Imran Khan joins the Association from Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE), a leading independent advocate for science and engineering in the UK, of which he has been Director since 2010.

Khan studied Biology at the University of Oxford, and holds a Master’s degree in Science Communication from Imperial College London. He has previously worked in Westminster as a senior parliamentary researcher for Dr Evan Harris, and spent time as a science communicator and freelance journalist.

“I’m delighted to be joining the British Science Association at such an exciting time. Science is a bigger part of our lives than ever before, and promoting understanding between scientists and the public has therefore never been more important, ” said Khan.

“I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues in continuing the Association’s excellent work, as well as developing new and innovative ways for us to reach our audiences.”

The appointment has been made by the British Science Association Council.

“I am delighted that Imran Khan has accepted the role of chief executive of the British Science Association. His commitment to science and to dialogue about science is paramount. It is a time of change and I look forward to working with him in his new role,” said Council Chair, Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow.

Departing chief executive Sir Roland Jackson will continue his work with Sciencewise, and take on a new challenge in academia.

“I wish Imran the very best, as he joins a wonderful group of staff and volunteers. I am much looking forward to continuing as Executive Chair of Sciencewise and plan to contrast this by working also as Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institution, focusing on the life of the superb Irish scientist, science communicator and mountaineer, John Tyndall,” said Jackson.
